Team Sweden OWWC 2026 interview with Scyle and Willys07: “As a kid, I wouldn’t

After duking it out against Team Germany in the quarterfinals of Overwatch World Cup 2026 (OWWC 2026) at BlizzCon, Team Sweden is another step closer to ultimate victory.

Ahead of the semifinals, esports.gg sat down with the team’s Simon “Scyle” Bröstrom and William “Willys07” Ersson for an interview! We talked about what it means to represent their country on the OWWC 2026 stage, the BlizzCon crowd, and how their team synergy developed throughout the year to lead to this point.

Interview with Team Sweden at OWWC 2026

In his interview with esports.gg, Willys07 shared that Team Sweden built its synergy over time. Everyone already had the mechanical skills needed to compete at the highest level in Overwatch esports, which meant bringing individuals together became an important part of the team’s preparation.

Team Sweden saw a lot of potential earlier this year, so by building on that, everyone gradually learned to play more and more like a team. That preparation certainly paid off as Team Sweden swept Team Germany 3-0 in the quarterfinals.

Scyle and Willys07 on OWWC 2026 as an Olympic-level competition

When we asked about what it meant to take their headphones off and hear the live OWWC 2026 crowd cheer for them after this victory, Scyle told us about how different the vibe is compared to other tournaments within the Overwatch esports ecosystem.

“It means everything,” Scyle said. “It’s so much fun. It’s different compared to other tournaments. And playing for a country — it’s like it has a deeper meaning, y’know? You can feel the country behind you.”

He continued, “You can for sure feel the energy. You can hear the crowd roar, and it’s such a good feeling.”

Meanwhile, Willys07, ever humble, described how representing Sweden is something special since he grew up watching the Olympics.

“Growing up, I’ve always watched the Olympics,” he said. “So it just feels so nice to represent your country. And think that I’m actually playing at that kind of level, you know what I mean?”

Willys07 continued, “It’s also nice hearing the cheers in the crowd like when you play and when you walk out. — Knowing [that] people are actually watching you and seeing the plays you’re making and cheering for you. At least for me, it’s unreal to actually hear that. As a kid, I wouldn’t have ever dreamed of this. But now? We are here.”

Team Sweden players aim to make BlizzCon history

The return of BlizzCon as an in-person event at the Anaheim Convention Center, in particular, also made OWWC 2026 feel even more special.

“Everyone looks forward to watching the World Cup. It didn’t happen in 2024 or 2025, so I think everyone was a bit disappointed. And so the moment when [OWWC 2026] was announced, everyone loved it,” Scyle said. “We as players always, always look forward to it.”

Now heading into the semifinals, Team Sweden must face Team Saudi Arabia.
