Pokemon resellers fuming as “generous” 30th anniversary rare card hits keep

Pokemon TCG resellers have been split over the new 30th anniversary release, with some claiming it is “overprinted” and the “generous” hits are making it hard for them to rake in money.

Pokemon cards have always been pretty big business, but things have exploded over the last few years. With celebrities throwing their money around to become big-time collectors and new releases being scooped up by resellers, regular Pokemon fans have been restricted in what they can get their hands on. 

That means having to spend big on boxes and packs being resold at a marked-up price, typically not making any money back.

However, that may have changed with the new 30th anniversary set. Some resellers have complained about the “generous” hit rates from Pokemon, with others leaving it alone and investing in other sets instead. 

Pokemon resellers say 30th anniversary is not a “good investment”

As IGN pointed out, there have been a few complaints about the release on the /r/PokeTrading subreddit. 

“The pull rates are generous and overprinted,” one user complained. “Yes, this set will make you money in 5-10 years. That does not mean it’s a good investment,” another added. 

“Now that the 30th has dropped and is being produced in excess, the hype is rapidly fading. There is no quick profit on the horizon for the market makers,” another commented. “I am just happy scalpers are suffering,” another user argued. 

Some resellers argued that the set is something to buy and hold for a few years, while others are targeting other sets instead, just so they can make some money now.

Additionally, others have suggested dumping the RGB chase cards for whatever price you can get. “Real ugly,” another said. My wallet is so happy these are ugly,” another chimed in.
