Forget peaceful gardening and neatly trimmed flowerbeds. Planted! turns the humble allotment into a competitive battleground, where growing giant vegetables is only half the job and launching them at your rivals is very much encouraged.

Developed by Cloth Cat Games and published by Curveball Games, this horticultural party game is out now on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, with the Xbox version available for £14.99. PC players will have to wait a little longer, with that version coming soon.

At A Glance

  • Game: Planted!
  • Developer: Cloth Cat Games
  • Publisher: Curveball Games
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 (PC coming soon)
  • Price: £14.99 on Xbox Store
  • Genre: Multiplayer Party Game / Arena Combat

Sow, Grow And Throw

Planted! gives gardening a competitive makeover. Players claim patches of land, plant seeds and nurture crops before turning their harvest into ammunition. Bigger vegetables can mean bigger rewards, but spending too long tending your garden also gives rivals an opportunity to interfere – or simply steal the fruits of your labour.

There are eight arenas to master, ranging from mountainsides and caves to active volcanoes and less-than-ordinary farmyards. Each brings its own challenges, ensuring that a winning strategy in one location might not work quite so well in another.

Then there are the power-ups. Weed bombs, spud turrets and green clones can all disrupt the competition, turning a carefully planned harvest into a frantic scramble for points. With up to four players involved, a quiet afternoon on the allotment is unlikely to stay quiet for long.

Go Solo Or Take On Your Friends

Although the multiplayer mayhem is a major part of the appeal, Planted! also features a dedicated single-player story campaign. This takes players through different locations, with challenges and boss battles providing opportunities to sharpen their gardening skills before heading into competitive matches.

For multiplayer, both local and online play are supported, with crossplay available. That means you can settle rivalries on the same screen or take the competition online, with plenty of opportunities to experiment with different tactics and power-ups.

Time To Get Your Hands Dirty

Planted! takes a familiar activity and gives it a wonderfully ridiculous competitive twist. Growing crops is no longer just about patience and planning – it’s about knowing when to harvest, when to attack and when to sabotage somebody else’s hard work.

If you’re looking for a party game that can turn a friendly gathering into a full-blown vegetable-fuelled rivalry, Planted! is ready for planting on Xbox Series X|S (through the Xbox Store) and PlayStation 5. Just don’t expect your friendships to emerge completely unscathed.
